PFR measures - Supporting the Solihull Property Flood Resilience Scheme
We have been supporting the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Property Flood Resilience (PFR) scheme with independent PFR and audit surveys to help mitigate and manage the risks from future flood events. As a result, 125 homes are now better protected and benefit from enhanced resilience.

Challenge
When parts of the West Midlands experienced high-intensity rainfall, more than 200 properties were flooded due to increased levels of surface water and associated river flooding. Due to the nature of the flooding experienced, assessments were completed by the Council and it was determined that conventional flood storage or other large-scale interventions were neither appropriate nor economically viable. An alternative option of providing PFR measures to affected properties has been adopted to help manage future flood risk.
Solution
Our PFR teams surveyed 125 properties throughout Solihull with the SMBC's chosen installer Watertight International having agreed, designed and installed PFR measures for each property.
Once the installation contractor had confirmed completion, a final post-installation inspection and audit survey was undertaken. A Post Installation Flood Risk Report was provided for each homeowner, which could be shared with their insurers, confirming the works undertaken to reduce flood risk and future damage, as well as helping to attain ongoing affordable flood insurance.
Benefit
The bespoke PFR report provided to homeowners gave details of the flood history, level of flood risk and a range of options identified for a package of PFR measures which were to be funded by SMBC. The scheme was primarily focused on the provision of resistance measures but options for resilient adaptation were also identified, should the homeowner wish to fund these themselves.
Going forward, we will continue to support SMBC with their PFR programme, having been appointed to deliver a further 200 independent PFR surveys. In addition to this, we are working closely with SMBC to further assess the rainfall alert and flood warning system, which can be used to warn residents and trigger the deployment of PFR measures in the various communities across the Borough.
