JBA Software has been providing mobile asset data management solutions to clients in the transport, utilities and environment sectors for over 15 years. With a vast increase of UK consumer phone users owning a smartphone, we recognised a growing need for clients to view and collect data using their mobile devices.
GISmapp® is an iOS (iPad/iPhone) location-aware mapping system used to collect asset data on site, to guide asset inspections and to manage health and safety risks during site work. It is linked to a centralised web server, syncing data to a web-based mapping application for management and reporting.
The team developed the GISmapp® app for iPhone and iPad users to prevent the need for multiple devices when capturing data. GISmapp® supports asset management across a range of services, including:
- Coastal structural asset survey
- Environmental assessment
- T98 asset surveys
- Scour assessments
- S19 inspections
- Highways bridge assessments
- Engineering project management
- Site investigations
- SuDS investigations.
The app allows the user to define the type of data that will be captured and provides a series of dynamic templates and forms which can be adapted for individual projects. This means that asset surveyors can be on site, collecting any type of data in less than 24 hours, particularly useful for emergency asset inspections. The GISmapp® app is available in the Apple App Store and can be downloaded to different devices and used with the clients login.
GISmapp® automatically geo-locates point, polyline or polygon assets and photographs so that these can be viewed in a mapping environment. The app also works in a semi-connected way so that users do not need network access to successfully add and edit data; information is automatically synchronised when a connection is available. After synchronisation, data can be viewed and downloaded via a generic, map-based website or a bespoke service can be created for clients with more specific reporting requirements.
GISmapp®’s interface and functionality is completely customisable, allowing specific templates to be developed for asset data collection. We have several standard forms available which allow a consistent approach to above-ground asset inspections.
