What are our Asset Inspection Management Services?
Asset management is the systematic planning and prioritisation of investment to ensure that assets continue to meet performance requirements throughout their design life.
Our expertise in this area includes culvert inspections, Public Safety Risk Assessments, T98 Inspections, Post Inspection Process assessments, confined space inspections, Electricity Substation surveys and much more.
In our role as sole supplier to the Environment Agency (EA) for the training and accreditation of Asset Inspectors, it’s our responsibility to ensure that Inspectors can competently, consistently and safely undertake visual inspections of EA flood and coastal risk management assets.
Culvert and Screen Assessment
Specialists from JBA were major contributors to the CIRIA ‘Culvert, screen and outfall manual’ (C786) published in 2019 – guidance that covers good practice on river culvert design and the need for security and debris screens. We have highly experienced teams who can undertake ‘Initial Need Assessments’ for screens, and appraisals of existing culverts and screens for compliance. We are currently working with the Department for Infrastructure in Northern Ireland, Natural Resources Wales and the Environment Agency in the reappraisal and inspection of their culvert and screen asset stock.
Public Safety Risk Assessment
Public Safety Risk Assessment inspections (PRSAs) are essential in ensuring that FCRM assets do not pose significant risk or danger to the general public, or compromise public access and rights of way.
We analyse all safety and security measures at a site, identify where existing hazards may occur and suggest remedial measures that will safeguard the public in accordance with industry best practice guidance.
T98 Flood Defence Asset Condition Inspection
We support both planned and reactive elements of the Environment Agency’s visual flood defence asset condition inspections.
We carry out planned inspections which support the Agency’s compliance with its Key Performance Indicator (KPI). This requires their Asset Information Management System (AIMS) database to be kept up to date in order to accurately forecast any future work.
The reactive element of our current Flood Defence Asset Condition work follows the widespread flooding that was caused by Storm Bella in December 2020. Our teams are able to assess any damage to Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) assets caused by the flooding.
Scour Assessments
Since 1995 we have been undertaking bridge, culvert and weir scour risk assessments for railway infrastructure organisations in the UK and Ireland. We work with the Network Rail, Irish Rail and Highways England scour assessment standards and can also advise on improving monitoring and also scour resilience.
Post Inspection Process
We are actively supporting the Environment Agency with the prioritisation of their asset improvement programme.
By helping in the delivery of Post Inspection Process (PIP) assessments for FCRM assets, we aid in the identification of assets that are below the required condition. And by closely examining these assets we can then analyse the risk and urgency of any problems and schedule any essential repairs.
We now have 5 trained PIP assessors within the JBA team.
