Internship with Mekong Modelling Associates
Mekong Modelling Associates (MMA) is a sister company of JBA Consulting, based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The company is a specialist environmental risk consultancy working for a wide range of national and international clients including the Mekong River Commission and the World Bank.
MMA is now offering internships which offer an exciting opportunity to live and work in Cambodia working on a range of river flood, climate change adaptation and transboundary water management projects.
The individual internships will last for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 4 months.
Interns will have the opportunity to work on a number of challenging international studies relating to floods, irrigation and water resources in the Mekong region. Depending on your interests and ability the involvement could be complex hydrology and hydraulic modelling or data analysis of ground and satellite data, mapping work and GIS report writing.
You will be working in a small office within a multi-occupancy building in central Phnom Penh. There may be a need for occasional field trips within the Lower Mekong Region (Cambodia, Laos PDR, Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand). You must be used to independent travel and able to work for periods in the Phnom Penh office alone.
Salary and Benefits
The internship is unpaid but allowances are offered to cover your cost of travel and living including return economy flight to Cambodia and assistance with local living/travel/visa expenses etc.

Qualifications and experience
Core skills required for the role are:
- High standard of written and spoken English.
- Good IT skills, including use of MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and hands-on experience in using GIS software such as ArcGIS, MapInfo or QGIS.
Desirable skills knowledge are:
- Previous experience/training in the use of hydrological, water resource and hydraulic models such as SWAT, Source, MIKE/HEC-RAS or ISIS/Floodmodeller.
- Knowledge of hydrology and meteorology
- Skills in the use of Python and/or R desirable
