A review on the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for monitoring shorelines and intertidal areas
- Contribution by:Payo Garcia, A.
- Publish date:27.08.2026
SAR offers a valuable complement to optical imagery for monitoring coastal morphological change, providing all-weather, day and night observations. This review synthesizes current SAR applications for shoreline detection and intertidal topography mapping, assessing methodologies, sensor configurations, environmental influences and uncertainties. It identifies key limitations and outlines research priorities to support more robust, automated coastal monitoring and hazard assessment.
