In England, the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and Planning Practice Guidance (PPG) are the basis for development management decisions. In Wales, the Planning Policy Wales TAN 15, and in Scotland the Scottish Planning Policy (Sections 196-211) are the relevant party documents.
We are supporting Risk Management Authorities, Local Planning Authorities and Developers, to identify suitable development areas and design flood mitigation schemes for areas, where there may be some risk of flooding
Our clients, Mersea Homes Ltd and Hills Residential Construction Ltd, asked us to look at the land west of Panfield Lane in Braintree, Essex. It is a large strategic site, 44 hectares in size, with a mixed use of development. Our clients asked us to look into all sources of potential flooding that could impact the site.
To help with their requirements we conducted a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA). Surface and foul water drainage strategies were proposed which in turn supported their planning application. The image above shows the drainage design being implemented.
