From achievements at the Flood & Coast Excellence Awards to recognition from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Constructing Excellence and Ground Engineering, these accomplishments demonstrate the breadth of expertise, collaboration and commitment found across JBA. As we strive to lead in society's pursuit for resilience to climate change, these awards highlight the impact of our work, the strength of our people and our commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients and communities.

A double award win in May

Our summer of success began in May at the ICE North West Awards, where the Lower Debris Screens project won the Future Resilience Award. The judges recognised the scheme's collaborative approach, sustainable design and ability to deliver flood protection while enhancing the local environment for future generations.

We were also delighted to celebrate Rebecca Lee, who was awarded the prestigious John O'Neill Otter Trophy at the CIWEM Tyne and Humber New Generations Competition for her presentation, 'Challenging Conventional Practice: Evaluating Innovative Approaches to Modelling Flood Risk and Peatland Restoration'.

Celebrating emerging talent

Supporting the next generation of professionals is at the heart of what we do, and we were particularly proud to see two early-career colleagues recognised for their achievements.

Amy Henderson received the ICE North East Princess Royal Award for Emerging Engineers 2026 for her paper on 'Women in Reservoir Engineering: Strengthening the Future of UK Reservoir Safety'.

Luna Richardson was named Rising Star of the Year at the ICE South East England Engineering Excellence Awards 2026, recognising her exceptional contribution and development as an apprentice.

Innovation and sustainable solutions

Alongside individual achievements, several of our projects were recognised for the positive impact they are delivering for clients, communities and the environment.

At the Ground Engineering Awards 2026, our Geotechnical Asset Management System (Gy-Ro) won the Digital Innovation Award, recognising its impressive response to a highly complex data challenge.

The Woodborough Debris Screen Replacement scheme secured the Small Construction Project Award at the ICE East Midlands Merit Awards, recognising the project's successful balance of engineering requirements with the cultural and historical significance of its surroundings.

Meanwhile, the Teesworks South Bank Watercourse project was awarded the Sustainability Award at the Constructing Excellence North East Awards, setting a benchmark for sustainable engineering and place-based transformation.
