Flood Foresight - Supporting Electricity North West to manage flood events
Major UK electricity provider, Electricity North West (ENW), have licensed Flood Foresight to support the management of flood events and protect thousands of at-risk assets. Adopting our flood forecasting and monitoring system, will enable Electricity North West to be proactive in identifying and prioritising mitigation measures to reduce power loss and speed up restoration and recovery.
Advanced flood forecasting and monitoring
Electricity North West provide electricity to more than 2.4 million homes in the North West of England. Flood events across their network have the potential to impact over five million customers. Effective early warning is vital to protecting assets and limiting disruption.
To help inform mitigation measures, Flood Foresight will be used to provide flood event depth and impact data, before, during and after floods. The system's advanced forecasting and monitoring will provide the consistent data and granular detail required to identify assets at risk, deploy pre-emptive mitigation measures and manage flood response.
We have worked closely with Electricity North West since 2014, when we were appointed to assess flood risk across their entire portfolio of assets in the North West of England. In 2020 and 2021, we were again appointed to identify assets at risk and propose mitigation recommendations.
Electricity North West's adoption of Flood Foresight will not only help to reduce the impact of flooding, it will also provide a valuable opportunity to promote a more proactive management of flood events, reducing impact on Electricity North West and the communities, businesses and infrastructure that rely on them.
