Innovation comes in all shapes and sizes at JBA. From industry-leading research, to innovative tools and software that support us in achieving our greatest ambitions. One such ambition is to become a Net Zero emissions business by 2040. A key part of achieving this is making low carbon a positive choice that informs everything we do. This drives many of our innovations and with the support of JBA Labs, we've developed two new tools that will transform the way we travel sustainably, track our carbon savings and monitor our progress towards Net Zero.
Streamlining travel planning to promote sustainable travel
With offices, clients, and projects across the UK and Ireland, business travel plays a significant role in our work. However, planning these journeys and choosing the most sustainable travel option can often be a time-consuming and difficult process. Recognising this, a proposal was made to JBA Labs to support the development of an in-house travel planning tool that would streamline the process.
By allowing users to compare the route, time, distance and carbon cost of different journeys and modes of transport, the finalised tool will help users to make informed travel choices. Ensuring that the tool is simple to use, informative and efficient, will encourage colleagues to prioritise lower carbon options and support us in achieving our carbon reduction goals.

Calculating carbon savings across our projects
Another innovation supported by JBA Labs aims to prioritise carbon reduction and motivate positive interventions - introducing our Carbon Project Tool.
This tool was developed to help quantify carbon savings across our projects and act as a record of positive decision-making and good practice. By calculating the carbon cost of activities and comparing these to a worst-case scenario, the tool calculates the carbon saved. These savings then form part of a quantified evidence log, allowing us to monitor our progress towards Net Zero.
Having been in use for several months, the Carbon Project Tool is already helping to initiate discussions around carbon saving and encourage positive interventions.
