Why choose the JBA Engineering graduate pathway?

Join our specialist engineering teams and help us build a more resilient future

Would you like to work as part of our expert engineering teams delivering on innovative, integrated and sustainable projects designed to build community and environmental resilience?

Whether you have a background in civil, structural, geotechnical, coastal, mechanical or electrical engineering you will have the opportunity to work across many different sectors to help shape our climate resilient future.

On this pathway, you could:

  • Work closely with our modelling, hydrology and ecology teams to create efficient, effective and sustainable civil and structural design solutions, through asset inspections, concept and outline designs, detailed design, and construction supervision.
  • Contribute to delivering high profile coastal and maritime projects, consisting of options appraisal, coastal process and sediment dynamics analysis, coastal and marine planning, and environmental consenting.
  • Take on diverse and complex geotechnical engineering challenges through feasibility design, engineering geology and geohazards, hydrogeology, and rock and soil slope stability.
  • Provide mechanical and electrical engineering technical advice, design specification and drawings, and asset inspection across the complete life of a project for flood defences, water transfer and land drainage pumping systems, river control structures and systems, and port and maritime services.
Explore all the areas you could experience as part of our Engineering pathway here.

Pevensey Star Inn Gates

“The Star Inn Gates is the main water level control structure on the eastern Pevensey Levels. The structure was reaching the end of it’s working life and presents a barrier to upstream eel migration. My role in this project was to develop the idea of a floating, passive eel pass into a complete, validated and buildable design. I used my mechanical engineering skills to select materials and components suitable for a marine environment, and my 3D CAD skills to draft a buildable design using off-the-shelf parts. I have further developed my understanding of mathematics, physics and problem solving skills during the proof testing phase of the project.”

Skeffling Pumping Station

“We worked on the detailed design of a new land drainage pumping station to protect surrounding residential properties and agricultural land. This new asset will replace an existing one, which has surpassed its design life. The new station will provide protection up to a 1% AEP event. I am the Project Manager for this scheme, where I lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver this complex technical design. I have oversight of the whole project, from the design calculations and details to commercial elements such as programme and costs.”

CAD SharePoint Development

“This project aimed to standardise graphical deliverables and develop a platform that prioritises consistency, collaboration and a community for technicians working on graphical deliverables. My role in this project included liaising with the company Digital Lead to scope requirements for the SharePoint site, working collaboratively with the IT department to develop a front and back end to the SharePoint site and setting up templates and standards to make it accessible to the entire company. By working on this project, I have been able to develop my SharePoint Development, Project Management and Digital Strategy technical skills.”
