Honouring those shaping the future of the water and environmental sector
The CIWEM Presidential Awards honour individuals who are driving meaningful change across the water and environmental sector through their commitment, creativity, and leadership.
This year’s finalists showcased how the sector is adapting to the growing climate emergency, with a strong emphasis on collaborative, community-focused approaches that prioritise resilience, inclusivity, and long-term sustainability.
Our Senior Environmental Analyst, Jack Dudman, was named a finalist for the Innovation Award, and Technical Director, Mark Bentley, won the prestigious Long Service Award.
These achievements highlight both Jack and Mark’s exceptional impact, dedication, and leadership within the industry and across JBA.
Driving change guided by our values
These achievements reflect our values of embracing innovation, working collaboratively and sharing knowledge. At JBA, we are committed to delivering innovative, high-quality solutions while working closely with colleagues, clients, and communities. Jack and Mark’s recognition at the CIWEM Presidential Awards demonstrates how our people embody these values, showing leadership, creativity, and dedication in tackling environmental challenges, and reinforcing JBA’s mission to lead in society's pursuit for resilience to climate change.
"I greatly enjoyed the CIWEM Presidential Debate and hearing the insightful viewpoints of the speakers. I've certainly come away with some new ideas about how we can magnify the impact of our work, both by strengthening resilience for our people and places, and by improving how policymakers understand what we do.
I'm proud to have been shortlisted for the Innovation award because this recognises the importance of keeping up with new ideas in such a rapidly changing world. At JBA, as lead for AI Business Tools and Upskilling, I've been equipping my colleagues with new tools and the skills to use them, so that they can focus on creating fresh solutions to new problems.
One of the origins of the word 'innovate' is to renew, so I invite everyone to think about how they will renew going into the future. How will you renew the ways that you work and your relationships with your clients and colleagues to work more efficiently to produce better outcomes? And how will you renew yourself, to ensure you're fit to face the future and make confident decisions in a world that changes so quickly?"
Senior Environmental Analyst, Jack Dudman
"It was a lovely surprise to receive an email out of the blue saying I had been short-listed.
As I think back on the early part of my career, I am reminded of the colleagues who made a real difference to my development and shaped the way I approach my work.
In particular, I would like to pay tribute to two former Fellows who gave me immense support. First, Nicholas Odd, my manager in HR at Wallingford, whose integrity and courage taught me that success does not always mean going with the flow. And secondly, John Gardiner, who in the 1980s championed the then-radical idea of using holistic catchment appraisal for flood risk management. I learned so much from both of them. Although they are sadly no longer with us, their contributions to our profession remain lasting and profound.
I know this is a long service award, but that does not mean my contributions to CIWEM are nearing an end. Although I am retiring in a year’s time, I still intend to serve the institution for many years to come."
