We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced MEICA Engineer (Technical Director level) to join and lead our Mechanical, Electrical Instrumentation and Control (MEICA) engineering team. The successful candidate will provide leadership and technical support to projects requiring mechanical input working closely with engineers of other disciplines and project managers. They will report to the Engineering Design Director and will assist with the design and delivery of a range of multidisciplinary engineering and environmental improvement projects.
Our current portfolio covers cradle to grave design including options appraisal, concept design, detailed design, procurement support, construction support and decommissioning.
You will work closely with our Design Manager and technical staff from across JBA’s offices, on schemes for clients such as the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, Canals and Rivers Trust, Associated British Ports and the Coal Authority.
As discipline lead you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the service delivery plan, working closely with the Head of Engineering and our business leadership team to develop our MEICA team offering and embed our core strategy of resilience.

The post can be based in either of our Leeds, LS1 2HL, city centre or Peterborough, PE2 6GG offices with a combination of office, site and remote working involved. JBA supports agile working which provides for greater flexibility with the way that we work.

Qualifications and experience
Key competencies required for the role:
A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering is essential. The applicant will be expected to hold chartership or a relevant institution with an interest in developing our team capability in the following skill areas:
- Pumping station and pumping system design and refurbishment
- River control structures design and refurbishment
- Mechanical systems associated with water transfer, screening, drives, power generation, lifting systems and materials handling
- Project Health and Safety including H&S project plans, site visit risk assessments & CDM awareness
- Technical input for mechanical elements of the following:
- Optioneering
- Scoping
- Feasibility studies
- Outline and detailed design projects
- Site supervision, Site Acceptance Testing and Commissioning
- Production of mechanical design documentation and drawings including: –
- Performance Specifications
- Detailed Design Specifications
- General Arrangement drawings
- Detailed design drawings
- Technical report writing
- Technical reviews of tender submissions
- Adherence to company policies and standards when delivering projects
- Support and advice to other project team members.
The right candidate will have:
- Experience of working within consultancy and alongside or directly with a contractor
- Ability to plan and manage a team and respond dynamically to site or tendering requirements
- A sound appreciation for engineering principles and good analytical skills for problem solving
- Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation
- Awareness of the wider engineering industry, emerging market patterns and innovation.
- Full UK driving licence.
