Hydraulic Modeller

We are looking for an Assistant Analyst to join the Peterborough team to assist in hydraulic modelling studies and assessment of flood risk.
Our hydraulic modelling teams support a range of clients including local authorities, the Environment Agency, SEPA and Natural Resources Wales through strategic framework appointments as well as insurance companies and developers to deliver a range of flood risk and environmental management studies.

The role will be varied and could involve collaborating with the wider Peterborough team, involving many specialisms ranging from Flood forecasting, software development, economic appraisals and civil engineering.

The post would ideally be based at our Peterborough, PE2 6GG office. JBA supports agile working which provides for greater flexibility with the way that we work.

Qualifications and experience
Key competencies required for the role:
We are looking for well organised, motivated, enthusiastic, flexible individuals who can work on their own or as part of a team. You should have a strong background in hydraulic modelling and flood risk / environmental management with good analytical/problem solving skills and be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
Applicants should have an Engineering, Science, Geography, Environmental Science/Management or other relevant degree (or equivalent)
Core skills required:
- Direct experience of 1D-2D hydraulic modelling of fluvial and surface water systems using TUFLOW, Flood Modeller or HEC-RAS.
- Understanding of fluvial and surface water flood risk policy and management approaches.
- GIS (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Experience interpreting hydraulic modelling outputs to inform technical analysis and reporting.
- Report writing and quality assurance.
- Problem solving.
The following skills would be desirable:
- Tender preparation.
- Coding skills in python or VBA sufficient to automate repetitive processes.
- Experience of hydrological analysis using ReFH and WINFAP for fluvial applications.
