Deputy Lead Principal Designer
Are you an engineer with an interest in health and safety management? Would you like to progress your career at an exciting and expanding company?
We are seeking qualified civil engineers with health and safety management experience to be part of our growing Principal Designer and engineering teams located within one of our engineering offices. The successful candidate will have a good level of experience working in the construction industry and will undertake the CDM Principal Designer role across our portfolio of projects.
You will report to our CDM Topic Lead and Lead Principal Designer, contributing to the delivery of a range of engineering and environmental improvement projects, including concept design, options appraisal, detailed design through to construction and handover. The role will also support out Health and Safety Management Team to sharing knowledge and experience through training with our Principal Designer team and wider design teams.
We are looking for candidates with sound technical knowledge, a positive and proactive mindset and the motivation to work proactively within the construction teams in a collaborative way with our clients.

Qualifications and experience
JBA Consulting is a client-focused organisation. Excellent written and effective communication skills are therefore essential to this role. Candidates should have a sound understanding of the Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations, an appreciation for engineering principles and confidence to direct and motivate integrated teams to deliver schemes safely, plus confidence to proactively engage with client and contractor teams. Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation are also considered key attributes.
Essential skills and experience required:
- A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Membership of relevant professional institution, for example ICE, IOSH, IMECHE, IIRSM.
- Robust relevant construction industry experience including design.
- National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Construction Certificate or equivalent.
- Suitable environment awareness qualification (e.g. CIRIA, CITB, IEMA).
- Incorporated Member of Association for Project Safety (APS) or working towards.
- A valid UK driving licence.
