We are seeking enthusiastic Geotechnical Engineers with proven commercial experience in geotechnical engineering design for an immediate start to join our teams within our growing Leeds, Peterborough or Newcastle offices. The successful candidates will provide technical support to civil/structural engineering problems across the JBA business.

Our workload is primarily on flood risk management projects, in the ground investigation and design stages. Our engineers work within multi-disciplinary project teams helping us to find the most economic and sustainable design solutions. We also offer support to the site works within our design and build joint venture, JBA Bentley. In addition to the flood risk management work, we also provide support to Network Rail and various local authorities in relation to slope stability investigation and design for road and rail infrastructure.
The main aspects of the role include:
- Delivery of a range of engineering and environmental improvement projects.
- Geotechnical modelling.
- Geotechnical design.
- Ground investigation planning and supervision
- Finite element modelling skills would be desirable (but not essential)
The candidate will report to a Technical Director and the position will suit a Senior Engineer looking to progress to Principal Engineer level
The post will be based in our Leeds &/or Peterborough offices, or potentially, in our Newcastle city centre office. We also support flexible/agile working.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineers and other technical staff from across JBA’s offices.

Qualifications and experience:
This position will suit a senior engineer looking to progress their career.
The right candidate will have:
- Experience of working in a client-focussed organisation.
- Excellent report writing and effective communication skills.
- A sound appreciation for engineering principles and good analytical skills for problem solving.
- Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation.
Who we are looking for:
A degree (or equivalent) in civil or geotechnical engineering is essential. The right candidate is expected to progress towards, or already hold, membership of the ICE or other appropriate institutions.
Demonstrable experience of geotechnical design and numerical modelling with a variety of design packages is considered essential, in particular PLAXIS 3D/2D, but also experience using WALLAP and GeoStudio or similar retaining wall design and slope stability/seepage software would be of interest.
A valid UK driving licence is required.
