Senior Civil Engineer

We are seeking an experienced civil engineer to be part of our team within our growing Peterborough office. The successful candidate will lead technical work for civil/structural engineering problems within a fluvial environment. They will report to a Senior Engineer and will manage the delivery of a range of engineering and environmental improvement projects, including options appraisal, concept design and detailed scheme design. The candidate will be responsible for mentoring and supervising junior staff and, dependant on experience, line management duties.

The post will be based in our Peterborough, Cambridgeshire office and will work closely with engineers and other technical staff from across JBA’s offices, primarily on the Environment Agency WEM Framework in a design and build environment but you will also be expected to help build a growing portfolio of work. You would be joining a young and dynamic team in Peterborough who are enjoying project success which has been recognised by recent industry awards.

Qualifications and experience

A degree in civil and or structural engineering is essential. The applicant is expected to be close to or achieved professional membership of the ICE or IStructE and have extensive and proven commercial experience.

Candidates should have experience of working in consultancy in the UK and for one of our main clients, the Environment Agency, would be advantageous. They should have a strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, geotechnical, hydraulic design and other aspects related to river and coastal flood risk management. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate experience of project or task management, achieving programme, controlling budgets and delivering work to the required quality standards.

JBA Consulting is a client-focused organisation. Excellent report writing and effective communication skills are therefore essential to this role. Candidates should have a sound appreciation for engineering principles and good analytical skills for problem solving. Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation are also considered key attributes. A valid UK driving license is required.
