Senior Drainage Engineer

Do you have extensive experience in drainage and development design?

We are looking for enthusiastic engineers and consultants with extensive experience in drainage and development design as well as an interest in flood risk management and the wider engineering field to join our team.

Our teams provide strategic, feasibility and detailed design services to a range of clients involved in development, land use planning and flood risk management projects. The continued growth in our development sector work in South Wales and the recent introduction of SuDS approval presents exciting opportunities to join a dynamic, versatile and award-winning engineering and environmental consultancy.

This role will have a focus on management and design of surface water and drainage systems as part of development and planning and will involve working alongside our civil engineering flood risk management team.

The successful candidate will be part of the existing JBA team that delivers engineering projects across Wales that include housing and major flood risk management schemes. You will liaise with developers/clients, consult with regulators and planning authorities and work with inter-disciplinary teams from within JBA to deliver suitable designs and successful outcomes. You will be Senior / Principal level and provide technical support to junior staff and input into bid and tender preparation.

Qualifications and experience

Key competencies required for the role:

We are looking for well organised, motivated, dynamic, flexible individuals who can work on their own and as part of a team.  You should have an interest in drainage engineering, water and the environment with strong analytical/problem solving skills and be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.  The role is suitable for individuals who wish to develop to take on additional responsibility as their career progresses, and team leadership will be an option for the right candidate.

Who we’re looking for:

You will have an engineering related qualification, degree or equivalent. Chartered status (eg. ICE, CIWEM,) is important to JBA and valued by our clients therefore applicants should ideally be chartered, or otherwise close to achieving chartership.

Knowledge of planning policy (PPW & NPPF), building regulations and CDM regulations is essential, as is experience in managing projects, contracts, budgetary control, specification preparation and liaising with clients. You will need to show you have a track record of coordinating/leading multi-disciplinary teams to develop design solutions.

Experience undertaking flood risk assessments and Experience of working in a D&B environment and of developer infrastructure projects would be highly desirable.

A valid UK driving licence is needed for this role.
