Engineer / Senior Chartered Civil Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer, preferably experienced in fluvial design and flood risk management to join our expanding team within our Warrington office. The successful candidate will be a technical lead principally in fluvial engineering and flood risk management projects. You will assist with the preparation of tenders and be directly responsible for project delivery of a wide range of engineering and environmental improvement projects and studies, including flood risk assessments, option and business case appraisal and design.

You will mentor and supervise junior staff and will have experience of managing projects and working closely with clients. You will be a Chartered (preferably through ICE) or near Chartered Civil Engineer and able to demonstrate a broad range of civil and environmental engineering experience. You will be expected to have an appreciation of hydrology, hydraulic modelling, hydraulic design and other aspects related to river and coastal flood risk management. A good understanding of current design standards, scheme appraisal guidance and National Planning Policy Framework is also required.

You will have a demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with clients including the Environment Agency, local government and other risk management authorities, with excellent report writing skills. Experience in asset inspection and site supervision would also be beneficial.

The post will be based in our Warrington office, although you will be required to work with engineers and other technical staff from across JBA’s offices and travel may be required.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants should be a Chartered Engineer or close to becoming Chartered and have a proven track record in project delivery. The successful candidate will have substantial proven experience in a relevant position and developing expertise with respect to the following skills:

  • General civil and fluvial engineering
  • Flood risk management
  • Outline and detailed design
  • Options appraisal and cost benefit analysis
  • Strategic and flood risk assessments
  • Contract documentation and procurement processes
  • Specification and contract management including CDM
  • Environmental appraisal and management
  • Project Management and site supervision
  • Communication
  • Environmental management and quality assurance
  • Business development.
