Arboriculturist

Are interested in developing your arboricultural career in a consultancy environment?

We have a wonderful opportunity for the right individual to join our Landscape and Arboriculture team, as we continue to expand. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised and has a professional attitude, as you will be responsible for surveying, consultancy, drafting reports and working collaboratively.

As part of our dynamic team, you will have the chance to work on exciting and diverse projects across the UK. These projects will be for the Environment Agency, statutory undertakers, local authorities and private sector clients. Our team has a national remit, which means that the workload for the successful candidate will be interesting and challenging. You will work alongside our other disciplines, which include landscape, engineering, heritage, ecology, environmental and natural flood management.

In the role, your day-to-day duties are likely to include:

  • Undertake the surveying and re-survey of trees.
  • Preparation of associated written reports including arboricultural impact assessments, method statements and condition reports. 
  • Provide arboricultural advice to both internal and external clients.
  • Supporting other technical specialists in undertaking site survey work and gathering information and data as required.
  • Assist project teams on collaborative projects with design support and guidance.  
  • Assist in the preparation of fee quotes and tenders.
  • Liaise with client representatives and 3rd parties on behalf of project teams as required, i.e., land agents, utility companies, local councils, and sub-contractors.

Location:

The role will ideally be based in either our office at Saltaire, West Yorkshire BD18 3LF, or Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 3BW.  However, JBA has offices throughout the UK and other locations will be considered for the right applicant. In addition, we support Hybrid working which provides for greater flexibility in the way we work.

Qualifications and experience

The right candidate will have:

  • at least a Level 3 qualification in Arboriculture or a similar, relevant discipline and have some prior experience of tree inspection (but we would also consider a recent graduate for the right person or a career change).
  • to be able to identify tree species commonly occurring in UK, and have sound knowledge of tree legislation, pests, diseases and disorders.
  • a full, clean UK driving licence.
  • a proven ability to work successfully as part of a team, liaising directly with clients, third parties and other design team members.
  • demonstrable experience of working in an office environment and planning and organising task delivery.
  • a motivated, flexible and enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • willingness to work outdoors in a wide range of environments and in all weathers.

It is desirable for the successful candidate to have skills/experience in:

  • PTI (Professional Tree Inspection) Lantra accreditation.
  • Experience of specifying works to BS3998:2010 and a good understanding of BS5837:2012 would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, GIS and industry graphics packages, but training would be available.
  • Experience in the preparation of drawings in CAD in accordance with relevant British Standards.
  • An HNC / HND (or equivalent) and previous experience in Arboriculture, Forestry or environmental consultancy or a similar, relevant subject.
  • Preferably have membership of the ICF or AA, with an ambition to become chartered.

You will also develop skills in consultancy, CAD, budget management and contract administration a part of this role
