Geomorphology Analyst

Due to growing demand across a range of exciting projects we have an exciting opportunity for a Fluvial Geomorphologist within our Geomorphology and River Restoration team.

The successful candidate for this post will be required to undertake geomorphology related fieldwork and desk studies for a variety of design, build and restoration schemes. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of environmental compliance and will support our wider environmental and engineering teams to input into and deliver projects such as asset maintenance, refurbishment and replacement and flood defence design and build schemes.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate broad experience and awareness of the inter-linkages between fluvial geomorphology, hydraulics, hydrology and ecology. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who is a strong communicator and team player, with a proven ability to work as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team.  Candidates should be prepared to travel throughout the UK and Ireland and spend occasional nights away from home.

The job will involve:

  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver projects to time, budget and quality requirements.
  • Project Management and Managing specialist sub-contractors.
  • Geomorphology focused site based work
  • Using and analysing datasets, GIS and modelling outputs.
  • Writing concise and logical reports, including for example policy research, technical analysis of hydraulic datasets, recommending policies.
  • Presenting at client meetings and project workshops.
  • Stakeholder engagement, with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Tender writing.

Our current team is based predominantly at our Midlands office in Coleshill, B46 1HT although our approach to hybrid and flexible working means we will consider candidates for several office locations.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants should have a geography or science related qualification, degree or equivalent and proven experience delivering work within a professional environment.

Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM, CGeog) is important to JBA and valued by our clients therefore applicants should show a desire to work towards becoming chartered.

We are looking for well organised, motivated, enthusiastic, flexible individuals who can work on their own or as part of a team.  You should have an interest in water and the environment with strong analytical/problem solving skills and be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.  The role is suitable for individuals who wish to develop to take on additional responsibility as their career develops.

Essential skills required:

  • An understanding of fluvial geomorphology.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary design team.
  • Project Management.
  • Tender preparation.
  • Experience of undertaking site-based geomorphology assessments and fluvial audits.
  • Experience analysing and using hydraulic modelling results.
  • Water Framework Directive (WFD) working knowledge.
  • Experience using Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Report writing and quality assurance.
  • A full UK Driving licence is required.

The following skills would be desirable:

  • Contract management.
  • Experience of developing and running hydraulic models.
  • Policy and strategy development.
  • Experience of coastal geomorphology.
  • An understanding of low flow hydrology and hydraulics.

The right candidate will be:

  • Organised and able to balance priorities.
  • Pragmatic thinker and solution finder.
  • A good communicator and mentor.
  • Self-starter, who manages own workload.
  • Excellent communicator.
