T98 Accreditation – New Training Course

We’re pleased to announce the launch of a new training course for anyone who wishes to acquire or refresh their T98 Asset Inspection Accreditation. This is an expansion to our well established on-site asset inspection service.

We have the only fully certified T98 Accreditors in the UK who are able to sign that the accreditation standards have been met, and they also provide valued one to one mentoring.

What does the course involve?

The T98 Accreditation course is a combination of office and site-based training, giving an introduction to a range of asset types from coastal defences and flood banks through to culverted assets and headwalls. It also the provides the opportunity to inspect and grade assets on site in accordance with the exacting standards of the Environment Agency’s Condition Assessment Manual.

On completion of this two-day course, candidates can progress to full certification through a series of independent inspections and record submission, followed by a site-based examination day.

Our fully certified accreditors John Chatterton and Craig Lucas have already delivered these training courses to East Riding of Yorkshire Council staff. On the first day of training the T98 Inspection Awareness course provided a classroom-based introduction for delegates to the Condition Assessment Manual, Asset template and Weightings Guidance Manual and general inspection process. It also covered coastal assets, fluvial assets, culverts and Sustainable Drainage systems (SuDS).

The second day of training T98 Accreditation was site-based for the delegates to use the knowledge gained on the previous day to complete several inspections and gradings for a wide range of flood risk assets, in accordance with the Environment Agency’s Condition Assessment Manual.

Delegates can now continue to full certification, which requires the independent inspection of ten assets and the submission of their asset inspection log for approval by JBA’s certified accreditors. The final stage of the training comprises a site-based examination day for the delegates to explain their grading decisions before they become fully certified T98 inspectors.

Who the course is aimed at

The T98 Inspection Awareness can be completed by those with no knowledge of T98 style flood risk asset inspections or by inspectors with certification that has expired who are looking for a refresher course.

The T98 Accreditation is aimed at:

  • Individuals/organisations looking to undertake T98 style inspections on Flood Risk Assets in accordance with the Environment Agency’s Condition Assessment Manual (3-days)
  • Accredited inspectors who require Accreditation renewal at the end of their original 5 year certification
  • Individuals/organisations looking to undertake T98 style inspections on a limited number of types of Flood Risk Assets in accordance with the Environment Agency’s Condition Assessment Manual (1-day introduction)
