We’re very pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract to design the new coastal defences for Robin Hood’s Bay which is located within the North York Moors National Park. The objective of the project is to design the capital maintenance scheme for the repairs of the existing concrete seawall and the associated drainage.
Our experience in coastal and maritime design and construction ranges from national studies through to the options appraisal, detailed design and construction supervision of coastal defence schemes.
We have also already worked on local schemes for Scarborough Borough Council including the detailed design of the new coastal defences at Runswick Bay which recently won the North York Moors National Park design award for Best Landscaping Project.
Our expert project team
The team working to deliver the Robin Hood’s Bay Coastal Defence Design have worked on many projects in this field such as:
- Repairs and structural improvements for the Lyme Regis Cobb Breakwater – the oldest harbour structure in the UK
- Detailed design for Castletown Harbour flood defence
- Repairs to the concrete seawall at Aberavon
- Detailed design of the new coastal protection scheme in East Rhyl, North Wales.
Our team will be led by our Project Director, Graham Kenn, who has over 19 years’ experience of managing major coastal and maritime construction projects. With a proven track record in translating the client’s commercial, operational and financial requirements into final design, Graham is a highly-experienced design engineer.
Project Manager and Design Lead will be Alan Tyndel. Alan is our Lead Maritime Structural Engineer and has over 12 years of industry experience. He has undertaken the structural design for numerous large-scale maritime structures in the UK and globally which has included the major refurbishment and concrete repair works of sea walls.
Planning, consenting and permitting requirements will be managed by Dr. Dorian Latham who is our National Technical Lead for Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Management. Dorian undertook the same role for the Runswick Bay scheme mentioned above and has therefore built up a good knowledge of the consenting requirements in the region.
