Gildas Colleter, a French-Australian Chartered port and coastal engineer with 20 years’ experience in Australia, Pacific and Asian regions, has recently joined the Jeremy Benn Pacific (JBP) team in Brisbane, Australia. Over the next week or so Gildas is visiting the UK to meet colleagues in varying JBA Consulting teams that support the work of JBP in Australia.
“Having Gildas join us has been fantastic. With his experience as one of the best coastal engineers in Australia and his ability to think outside the box he truly fits the JBA-style of working. His work in linking communities together to jointly deliver very-large scale beach recharge schemes is already making waves in Australia, and is something that can be easily transferred to the UK in the future” commented Dan Rodger, JBP Managing Director.
Award winning expert
Prior to joining JBP Gildas worked as an executive Technical Director for Aurecon, leading their coastal services globally. He then directed the three million metre cube “mega” beach nourishment project on the Gold Coast, in preparation for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Gildas contributed to height projects which won Engineering Awards in Australia and internationally, including the flood resilient Brisbane Ferry terminal project which won the ICE 2017 Brunel Medal.
Over 30 papers in scientific journals and conferences have been published in his name with subjects ranging from coral reef hydraulics, wave-structure CFD modelling, physical testing, coastal management resilience and LiDAR technology.
“I’m looking forward to putting my experience into practice at JBP to further reduce weather-related impacts, support infrastructure design, offer advance warning of disruptions, and reduce the cost of delays to our clients” commented Gildas.
Gildas in the UK
Visiting our Haywards heath office Gildas will meet Marc Pinnell, JBA Consulting Managing Director, Graham Kenn, Technical Director for Coastal, Maritime and River Engineering and their teams where, amongst other things, Graham will give Gildas an update on our East Rhyl Flood Defence Scheme project.
Moving then to our Skipton offices in Yorkshire, Gildas will meet Mark Lawless, Director of Business Innovation and Head of Marine and Coastal Risk Management at JBA Consulting. The pair will discuss our leading software programmes Asset Coast and JFlow® as well as giving Gildas the chance to meet our coastal, software and business support teams for a full introduction to the JBA family.
Fitting well with the team, Gildas will work with both his JBP and JBA Consulting colleagues to provide specialist Weather Risk Management services for Australia and the wider Pacific region. Now established in Queensland, JBP is joined by experts from a range of backgrounds – including science, engineering, hydrology and forecasting. They integrate new technology within a range of traditional science, engineering, construction and transport sectors.
