JBA Property Flood Resilience team visit Droitwich BSI Flood Testing Facility

A recent visit to a BSI-approved research and development facility provided a valuable opportunity for our PFR team to experience resilience measures in action and share ideas and updates on key projects.

In August, our Property Flood Resilience (PFR) teams came together to visit a state-of-the-art flood test tank designed to replicate real-life flood conditions and demonstrate the effectiveness of different PFR measures.

The British Standards (BSI) approved research and development facility at M3FloodTec’s premises in Droitwich is primarily used to test products such as flood barriers, flood doors, and anti-flood airbricks to ensure they meet the new BS851188 industry standards but is also an effective engagement tool.

By visiting the facility our teams were able to see a variety of different PFR measures in use and over the course of the day observed several demonstrations. This included witnessing how flood barriers were able to hold back 600mm of water, as well as a live demo from inside the ‘Flood House’.

To replicate realistic flood scenarios the outside of the bunded Flood House is filled with water, whilst inside the house, visitors are able to see how the different PFR measures work to resist floodwater ingress and effectively avoid the extensive damage and stress caused by flooding.

Taking part in this demonstration allowed our PFR teams to further highlight the variety of PFR measures available to the public, the importance of installing and maintaining them correctly and the positive impact they can have in protecting a property.

As well as being an opportunity to see the different PFR measures in use, the visit also provided a valuable opportunity for our colleagues from different offices to meet and share ideas and updates on current and upcoming PFR work.

Our grateful thanks are extended to M3FloodTec for hosting.
