Introduction to hydromorphology and fluvial geomorphology

Don’t miss our upcoming specialist training course: Introduction to hydromorphology and fluvial geomorphology.

Tailored to give attendees an introduction to geomorphological approaches to river restoration, sustainable river management, presenting the methods used in a geomorphological assessment and fluvial audit and discussing the situations where river geomorphology can be usefully applied.

Pre-course webinar – 23 November 2021

Module 1 – 24 November 2021

Module 2 – 25 November 2021

This course is suitable for:

Practitioners requiring a basic understanding of geomorphology and hydromorphology, and those seeking a catchment-wide perspective for flood relief planning, Water Framework Directive related compliance and strategic restoration studies.

What does this course cover?

Designed to give attendees an overview of the essential role that fluvial geomorphogical dynamics play in river design, restoration and management, this introductory course is ideal for those seeking a catchment-wide perspective for flood relief planning, Water Framework Directive related compliance and strategic restoration studies.

Knowledge of river hydromorphology and geomorphological dynamics is fundamental for sustainable river design and management. It facilitates the assessment of risk, increases understanding within the Environmental Impact Assessment process, helps alleviate flooding impacts and informs instream flow requirements, system restoration and ecology.

By the end of this series of training modules you will have an understanding of how geomorphology is used in relation to sustainable river management, the methods used in geomorphological assessment and fluvial audit and where river geomorphology can be usefully applied to indicate where further guidance and information can be found.

About the trainer – Matt Hemsworth, BSc MSc MCIWEM C.WEM

Technical Director and fluvial geomorphology expert, Matt Hemsworth will be delivering this introduction to hydromorphology and fluvial geomorphology. Matt has professional specialist experience in applying fluvial geomorphology in construction, river restoration, sediment transport, hydraulic modelling and Natural Flood Management.
