BeFloodReady launches Missy’s Tale – an exciting collaboration with Aardman Animations

Roll out the red-carpet!  We’re thrilled to share the launch of a brand new animation exploring property flood resilience: BeFloodReady – Missy’s Tale. Meet Missy and Archie and follow them on their adventure as they learn how to be ready for flooding.

The launch of BeFloodReady – Missy’s Tale, is the culmination of an exciting collaboration between the South West Property Flood Resilience Pathfinder project and Aardman Animations, to help increase awareness of the steps you can take to reduce the risk of flooding for your home or business.

We’re pleased to be a partner on the South West Property Flood Resilience Pathfinder which is led by Cornwall Council. This DEFRA funded project aims to increase awareness and enhance future take-up of Property Flood Resilience (PFR) across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Peter May, Associate Director, has been telling us more:

There will always be some communities where a traditional flood defence scheme is unviable. Thankfully though, there are now more effective flood protection options available than simply relying on a sandbag.

For the past 18 months, JBA Consulting has been supporting the Local Authorities across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly on the DEFRA funded South West Property Flood Resilience Pathfinder project. This aims to raise awareness and wider take-up of property flood protection and resilience options. What better way than an engaging and professionally produced film by Aardman Animations! PFR can make a huge difference and enable communities to prepare and manage the impacts of flooding. This is all the more urgent as flood risk increases due to the effects of climate change.

The Pathfinder project has developed a range of outputs to promote awareness of flood risk across the south-west and the measures that can be employed to manage the risk. These include an exhibition FloodPod trailer; a bespoke website and ‘BeFloodReady’ brand; and an information and support centre at Heartlands, Redruth.

Recent news from the South West Property Flood Resilience Pathfinder project includes:

BeFloodReady South West PFR Demonstration Centre will be hosted at the Heartlands World Heritage site between Redruth and Cornwall. This interactive space will be a hub for Property Flood Resilience demonstrations and learning. Interactive displays about how we can manage and prepare for flooding, and live demonstrations of PFR measures and products in action during a flood.

BeFloodReady FloodPod summer tour: The BeFloodReady FloodPod will be on a Summer Roadshow tour with dates anticipated to start in August. The FloodPod is full of useful information about flooding and PFR equipment and is a place people can see and learn about all things PFR. Keep a lookout on www.BeFloodReady.uk for the latest tour dates.

BeFloodReady website is constantly being updated with content to help homeowners and business owners navigate their way through property flood resilience, including information about PFR products, PFR framework, Code of Practice, insurance and sources of PFR funding.
