Coastal Analyst

We are looking for a motivated and committed individual to join our Marine and Coastal Risk Management group (MCRM) in our Edinburgh office.
The role will involve delivering a variety of coastal engineering and management projects to support our growing portfolio of work. Workload will bring together data and modelling outputs to analyse and predict climate impacts on the coast. You will play a central role in delivering projects to support coastal adaptation planning.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently and deliver analysis and technical outputs to contribute to project objectives. They will support senior colleagues through data analysis, interrogation, and interpretation to develop plans to support coastal adaptation in the changing climate. Enthusiasm and drive are essential, with the candidate being expected to contribute their own ideas on project delivery and wider objectives.
A willingness and application to learning and training is essential. A dedicated annual training budget is provided to support individual career development goals.
Salary offered will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

The role will be based at our Edinburgh, EH14 4AP office. JBA supports agile working which provides for greater flexibility with the way that we work.

Qualifications and experience
Candidates will be able to demonstrate that they are able to:
- Work effectively within a team, with regard for deadlines and budget.
- Communicate clearly, both verbal and written.
- Be proactive and creative in deriving and applying methods to understand and communicate coastal climate change impacts.
Candidates need to have the following:
- A bachelor’s degree or master’s (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (e.g. Coastal Engineering, Oceanography, Geomorphology).
- A strong understanding of coastal processes, beach morphodynamics and hydrodynamics.
- A strong understanding of climate change and how it will impact the coast.
- Experience analysing and interpreting climate, environmental or extreme hazard data.
- Experience using GIS products and coding.
Additional desirable skill include:
- Experience undertaking data analysis in Matlab, Python or R.
- Experience or awareness of land use planning and policy development.
- Relevant industry experience.
