Surface Water Management Plans
Surface Water Flooding
Surface Water Flooding is complex and affected by many factors. The Pitt Review 2008 under recommendation 18 states that ‘Local Surface Water Management Plans, as set out under PPS25 and coordinated by local authorities, should provide the basis for managing all local flood risk’.
Floods: Knowing Where and When
Identify the areas susceptible to pluvial flooding (flooding from land, groundwater and sewer), fluvial (river) or tidal events. Flood maps can be combined with vulnerability data to identify the areas that have potential for significant damage and disruption during a flood event.
Flood Studies and Investigation
Identify the cause of flooding and recommend solutions to prevent or alleviate reoccurrence of the same.
We can help you in all of the following ways - and more….
Reducing the Risk of Flood and its Impact
We carry out feasibility studies to develop solutions in high risk areas. Solutions could be a minor culvert upgrade or a major work such as flood storage. Solutions could also include retrofit SuDS.
Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS)
We have the capability to provide SuDS solutions through the appreciation and correct application of ecological, water quality and hydraulic concepts alongside social equity, economic efficiency and conservation of natural resources. Don't miss the latest software called music. Find out more here or download a free trial from the music4water website.
Prepare for Flooding
Once the flood risk is understood we develop plans to ensure emergency access is maintained to vulnerable communities and the impact of flooding is minimised.
Large Scale Quick Screening Tools
We have developed 'quick screening' tools which can be efficiently applied to identify pluvial flooding of large geographical areas. This uses our rapid 2D raster based routing model, JFLOW®, to identify key locations where water may pond in urban areas and predicts vulnerability of essential services such as electricity and water supply within a reasonably short period of time.
Detailed Modelling
We undertake 1D and 2D modelling of sewer systems, rivers and overland flows, overtopping and breaches which enables analysis of flooding from many sources in rural or urban environments.
Sustainable Mitigation Design
We will assess the feasibility of solution options, carry out detailed design and supervise the construction of any mitigation scheme.
Economic Assessments
Economic analysis ensures that solutions obtain the highest possible benefit cost ratio.
Social Vulnerability
Combining new or existing flood maps with population data to ensure the most vulnerable people and assets are protected.
Rescued and Cared for during Flood Emergency
Preparing emergency evacuation plans and providing advice on ways of reducing the impact of flooding during and after a flood event. Click here for more information on our Emergency Management Services.
