With its distinct geography, unique and long-standing legal system, and devolved government, Scotland is a market distinct from the rest of the UK. JBA recognises this and since 2003 has had an office in South Queensferry, just outside of Edinburgh.

We are able to offer our clients professional advice and assistance in the interpretation of and compliance with engineering, flood risk, river restoration, water management and environmental planning policy and legislation, including Controlled Activities Regulations (CAR).  Our highly qualified team of engineers, hydrologists, flood management and GIS specialists provides innovative thinking to achieve down-to-earth, pragmatic solutions in the complex field of drainage, water and environmental management. 

Previous projects have included providing technical assistance to Renfrewshire Council with the Interreg IIIB NWE Project 'Urban Water' and the design and assessment of Flood Prevention and Protection  Schemes including Stonehaven, Brechin, Galashiels, Tillicoultry and  North Renfrew.  We have assisted Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) in the provision of surface water mapping and  the Scottish Tidal Flood Risk Maps, flood forecasting and warning  and also in design of  new gauging and warning stations as well as training.  For the Scottish Government, we have completed the Groundwater flood hazard map, the Scottish Flood Defence Asset Database, a comprehensive asset survey and condition assessment of all flood protection schemes built in Scotland since 1961.  For local councils, we have provided services in strategic flood risk assessment, drainage and flood protection.  We have provided over 1000 scour assessments for Network Rail and designed solutions to reduce scour and develop solutions for erosion protection. We have a survey capability supporting survey collection across the company and delivering river surveys and post flood surveys in for example Inverness and Tillicoultry.  More recently we have been developing river restoration solutions.
